Everything your carrier's liability isn't.

Goods in transit insurance — also called cargo insurance, freight insurance, or transit insurance — covers physical loss of or damage to your goods while they're being transported by road, rail, sea, or air. The declared value of your cargo sets your cover amount, so declaring the full value of your shipment helps avoid underinsurance, subject to policy terms.

FreightInsure's transit insurance covers a wide range of cargo per shipment, including general freight, equipment, machinery, and vehicles. Cover applies to domestic freight within Australia and NZ, and to international shipments inbound to or outbound from Australia and NZ, up to the policy limits set out in the PDS. Each shipment is priced individually based on the goods being sent, their declared value, and the route — there's no annual policy commitment.

Common freight insurance exclusions

Like all transit insurance policies, FreightInsure cover has exclusions — events or types of cargo that aren't covered. Knowing what's excluded before you ship is just as important as knowing what's covered.

Standard exclusions across most cargo insurance policies, including FreightInsure's, typically include damage caused by inadequate or unsuitable packaging (see our Packaging Guidelines), inherent vice — meaning damage caused by the nature of the goods themselves, such as decay, evaporation, or self-heating — and deliberate or wilful acts by the insured. Loss caused by ordinary wear, tear, or gradual deterioration is also generally excluded, as are certain restricted classes of cargo such as hazardous materials and live animals.

For the full list of exclusions that apply to FreightInsure cover, read the Product Disclosure Statement before purchase. This information is general only and does not take into account your objectives, financial situation, or needs.
